Dream With A Purpose Ride

As a bicycle riding enthusiast, I have often wondered if I could trek across this great country of ours – starting in Montauk at the Lighthouse and going to the Pacific Ocean in San Diego, CA. This trip would be approximately 4,300 miles. Having never crossed the United States on land, I'm sure I would experience a flood of emotions along the way - awe at beauty beyond belief, happiness, sadness, poverty, wealth. I would probably feel elated at times and I'm sure I'd feel pain, frustration and doubt, wondering about my ability to go on and make it.

It is with these thoughts in mind that I want to make this ride a reality with a heartfelt purpose. I was fortunate to miss the Vietnam War and all the pain and suffering that went along with it, though I did experience it first hand through one of my brothers. The wounds to his soul may never release him from their grip. I look in the papers each day and see the news about all our men and women who so bravely go in harm's way now to defend our country so we may live in freedom. Many of them will pay a heavy, heavy cost for many years, if not for the rest of their lives. We also cannot ever forget those who have paid the ultimate price by giving their lives for all of us. I want to dedicate this ride to these men and women and raise as much money as possible to benefit the Wounded Warrior Project.

The Wounded Warrior Project (WWP) assists men and women of the armed forces who have been injured severely during the conflicts and wars in Afghanistan, Iraq and other locations around the world. The WWP’s primary goal is to provide support and assistance to these soldiers as they work their way through rehabilitation and make the difficult adjustment to civilian life with their new physical limitations.

I am very aware that we are living in a difficult economic period but this may be the most important time to help these brave soldiers and let them know they are not forgotten. If you could see clear to sponsor me with whatever you are able, small or large, I would be so grateful. All of this money will go directly to the Wounded Warrior Project. All expenses associated with my trip will be self-funded. My goal is to raise as much money for the soldiers as possible. So if it's a half a penny a mile, or a penny, nickel, dime or more - whatever you can spare - it would be great to have your spirit and support with me on my quest.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read this and to help all those men and women who have helped us so immeasurably. My anticipated date of departure is mid to late September 2011.

Kevin Harrington Plumbing & Heating opened for business on August 15, 1980. I would like to thank all of you for your loyalty, trust and support these past 31 years and I hope for 30 more. Without you there would be no business. I can’t thank you enough! At this time I would also like to thank Rachel, Ken, Scotty, Jorge, Mauricio, Javier, David, Arley and Julian for their care and dedication to doing quality work and for minding the store in my absence.
