Day #12 - Is that the Sun?

Yes!  Something new on Day #12!  SUN!  Although still chilly, it was nice to finally have a dry day, especially given the difficulty of the ride.
After leaving Greenwood, Kevin started the arduous task of riding into the Blue Ridge Mountains.  Throughout this 60 mile day, approximately 45 miles of which were uphill, they rose 5,700' above sea level.
The Blue Ridge Mountains have some of the highest peaks in eastern North America and are named because of their misty, blueish appearance.
Along the way they stopped at a little diner called Gertie's Country Store and refueled.
At the end of the day they made camp behind the Harrison Funeral Home in Lexington, VA. Well, that's different!  We'd like to express our gratitude to the folks at Harrison!  Thankfully it was a quiet night and no one checked in (or out!)

If you really want to play with the big boys you should have been with me today...makes your ride look like a cake walk....car & driver picked me up & I had to be driven on LIE to the airport...got so rough, had to stop at Starbucks in Manorville...Then an entire hour & a half to Asheville with no food service...now that is true sacrifice...I thought of you the entire day...XOXO, Waterdog123

Hi Kevin, Thank you for doing this. Support of WWP is a most worthy cause and I appreciate your efforts on their behalf. I love the Gertie's sign posted above...a sign from Gary perhaps? :)Wishing you all the best for a successful journey, the experience of a lifetime I'm sure. Happy Trails.
